Essex
Essex is situated to the east of London and is a rich cultural heritage centre on the East coast with outstanding transport links to the capital city. These include tubes, bus’s and rail connections. Hertfordshire
Start in St. Albans, which has been shaped by over 2,000 years of history, from Roman Verulamium to the magnificent cathedral. South from here is Borehamwood ´Britain´s very own Hollywood´ with its film/television studios. Or head north into rich rolling countryside to visit Welwyn´s 3rd C. Roman baths, the gothic fantasy of Knebworth House and George Bernard Shaw´s former home at sleepy Ayot St. Lawrence. Nearby Stevenage is Britain´s first New Town.
Watford is Hertfordshire´s largest town, a busy centre for shopping and entertainment. Follow the historic Grand Union Canal to Hemel Hempstead´s charming old town, the 11th C. castle at Berkhamsted, and pretty Tring with its zoological museum. The Ashridge Estate offers 4,000 acres of rolling countryside and ancient woodlands to explore.
To the east of the county is the Lee Valley Park, a lovely area of lakes and green open spaces - excellent for bird-watching. Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire is situated just half an hour from central London and easily accessed by both road and rail. Within a stone’s throw of the nation’s capital you can be walking the gently rolling Chiltern Hills, rambling through the county’s famous beech woods like Burnham Beeches, or strolling along The Thames Path at Marlow in no time at all!

Berkshire
Stretching west from London’s edge is the Royal Borough of Berkshire which follows the Thames from London and houses an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ The North Wessex Downs. Berkshire is very easily accessible to London as there are fantastic commuter links and you are never more than hour from London.
Cruise along the Thames, have a flutter at the famous Royal Ascot Races, join the cheers at Henley Royal Regatta Rowing Event or shop till you drop…. Berkshire is a county full of endless possibilities.

Oxford and Oxfordshire
Oxfordshire is a rural retreat, known worldwide for its beauty, character and charm. Sussex
Sussex is one of England more diverse counties which is actually divided into two sections, East and West Sussex. Bedfordshire
Start in the county town of Bedford, noted for its fine river setting and connections to the author/preacher John Bunyan. To the north west are pretty limestone villages, such as Harrold and Stevington, and to the east, the gigantic airship hangers at Cardington and Old Warden´s collection of flying machines and Swiss-style garden. Close by is the RSPB´s nature reserve at Sandy, the historic vehicles of the Stondon Museum, and Wrest Park´s gardens and follies.
Heading south from Bedford is the lakes and wildlife of the Marston Vale. Antiques lovers should head to the fine Georgian town of Ampthill set on the wooded slopes of The Greensand Ridge. Woburn (another great place for antiques) is also home of the magnificent abbey, seat of the Dukes of Bedford. Watch out for the elephants at the safari park! Leighton Buzzard set on the Grand Union Canal has always been famous for its sand - and you can take a ride on the little railway here.
The highest point of the East of England is the Dunstable Downs, with its chalk-life flora and fauna. Great for kite-flying - visit the famous Whipsnade Zoo, or take a flight in a glider. At the foot of the Downs is the town of Dunstable, with its 12th C. priory. It was once noted (along with Luton) for its hat-making. Luton itself has great shopping and leisure facilities, plus several museums and landscaped parks to enjoy.
Northamptonshire
